Son Real is situated at 12 kilometres from Can Picafort. The name comes from the torrent that flows into the sea in this beach. In 1991 it was declared Àrea Natural d'Especial Interès for the diversity of flora and fauna by the Parlament de les Illes Balears.
This protected coastal strip, which is two kilometres large and five kilometres long, is formed by dunes which are fixed by a thick vegetation. There are two wetlands in the mouth of the torrents of Son Real and Son Bauló, where migratory birds, insects and amphibious live.
There are lots of archeologic rests. The coast is formed by rocks and sand, very flat, and the gentle slope makes bathing easier.
This beach is characterized by the fact that it is virgin and quiet, it is very big, the sand is fine-grained and clear, with the accumulation of posidonia rests on the coastline which can reach some metres of height. The size might change a lot in winter, depending on the force of the Torrent de Son Real.
The marine and underwater conditions are good for anchoring boats, on a rocky and sandy ground, at a depth of four metres at 150 metres from the coast. Nearby you will find Club Nàutic Serra Nova.
The accessibility by car is easy until Son Serra de Marina. From there you will see, on the left, a straight road that takes to this sandy area, which is not crowded at all by local visitors and tourists. You can also reach the beach on foot (200 metres), if you park in the marina and start out from there.
